Healthy Weights for Healthy Kids Study

The Pediatric Obesity Foundation is working in collaboration with the Pediatric Weight Clinic in conducting a study on treatment for childhood weight management.  The study is recruiting children between the ages of 8 - 16 with a BMI greater than the 85th percentile for age.  Children who meet this criteria are encouraged to contact the Pediatric Weight Clinic (403-547-8992) or Roberta Corbett to set up a pre-screening appointment.  The program will be fully funded by the Pediatric Obesity Foundation..

Pediatric Weight Clinic

“Helping overweight children and youth create long-lasting lifestyle changes”

PuzzleAt the Pediatric Weight Clinic (PWC) we help overweight children and youth make lifestyle changes. These changes can lead to a healthy, positive future that includes, but is not solely focused on, weight loss and weight management.

The PWC is modeled after the Weigh of Life program developed at the Texas Children’s Hospital. The treatment program involves the child, their family and a team of professionals who provide psychological, medical, nutritional and physical activity support.

Located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the Pediatric Weight Clinic is the first of its kind in western Canada. We invite you to find out more about our program and the team.

We are currently in our 4th year of operation and have helped over 400 families.

POF Now Offering Financial Support

One Patient’s Success Story

Aaron Woo “My life before treatment was mostly being very inactive and consisted of a lot of snacking (due to boredom). I was not very physically fit and didn’t have a lot of confidence due to my obesity. The PWC encouraged me to become active and taught me many things about nutrition, and helped me maintain my weight loss. I went from being kid that could barely run for 5 minutes to a person that starts each day with a 35 minute run, then 25 minutes of bicycling, weight-lifting at the gym twice a week, and four martial arts classes a week. Currently I am a very busy Engineering student with classes consuming a lot of my time. I still find time to exercise by going to the gym with friends, or doing my morning runs. Though my activity is less it has not totally disappeared. I doubt I will ever go back to my old self; I like the new me too much!” ~ Aaron
